New Year, Same Me: Goal Setting When Everything Feels Hard

Share with a friend

The saying is normally “new year, new me” but I don’t think I need a new me for 2025 really. A “new me” wouldn’t have 40 years’ of life experience under her belt, all that learning, growth, heartache, grief, those joys and successes to guide me through whatever 2025 has to throw at me. So I’m going into this year saying “new year, same me” and I invite you to do the same 😊. Go into this year with all the wisdom gained throughout 2024 and beyond, use that wisdom as your guide, your armour and your super power.

Is this what Kamala Harris was on about when she was going on about falling out of a coconut tree? Maybe!

My intention for 2025

I mentioned last year that I’m not big on new year’s resolutions. They always tend to be flimsy and innocuous promises that I don’t care about enough to worry if I keep them or not. Maybe that’s me taking a cop out but whatever the reasons, resolutions don’t work for me. perhaps it’s just semantics but words that carry more meaning for me than “resolution” are “goal” and “intention.” A goal feels more positive to me than a resolution which implies there was something to resolve. And an intention is like a guiding principle, a north star that can help me focus in any given situation.

My intention for 2025 is “Start Strong, Keep Moving” and I’m confident it will keep my procrastinating mind on course. Do you set new year’s resolutions and how often do y0u keep them? Try setting an intention for 2025 instead. How would you like to approach the year? Can you summarise that into an empowering intention?
